Play

I love you and you love them
And they don’t seem to even care
If I loved you and you loved me,
I would call the life game fair

The game of love is not so fair
When all it does is separate
It pairs the ones that shouldn’t pair
And parts the twos and shapes despair

If I were god or destiny
Or someone who was able
I’d be able just to love you
And our love would be no fable

I might be there just to hold you
When all the tales have passed
To tell you how I once felt
Even though you had to pass

If I told you that I loved you
And that I would die for you,
Would you be there just to hold me?
Would you be there just for me?

Or will you play once more
And  let go
Of something oh so real?

Would you be there just to hold me
As I’m holding you so tight?
Should I let go of your body
And just know I’m not without?

Or will you play once more
And let go
Of something oh so real?

Will it be there only one day
Our sacred little game?

The game we’ve played
For oh so long

The game we love to play
